Advice:
Allergic reaction to french fries Gluten reaction?
Watch this

Forgive me but I am still a Newbie with this.

I had an allergic reaction to french fries last night. Tingling mouth, itching hands, and headache. ???? I was at our County Fair.

I had this happen once before with ice cream and that is how I found out I had a milk allergy but.... this was french fries?

Can gluten cause this type of reaction? My hands itched like crazy.

I had to go home and take some Histamine 2 pills because Benadryl has lactose in it.

I am better today but still not great.

Open to suggestions or thoughts...Oleander

" usually at fairs, the fries are the only thing cooked in the oil... not that it's not possible that other breaded items hadn't been cooked to cause cross-contamination... possibly the type of oil, such as peanut could have been used that you may be sensitive too? if they were store bought fries, and not fresh cut potatos, they could have had gluten in them or MSG... who knows... hope you feel even better by now! " It's not uncommon for french fries to be doused with preservative or flavor enhancing solution after being cut. Unless they advertised fresh cut fries the odds are good they were frozen processed fries. The preservative solution can include wheat as well as a sulfite solution. Some states no longer allow the sulfite to be used or it must be disclosed if it is used. Sulfities are a common allergen. "

" Oleander - This is not a common reaction to gluten - celiac reactions are usually internal. Hazymay is probably correct in mentioning peanut oil or something else you've developed an allergy to. You can wake up tomorrow and have a new allergy to something you've eaten or touched every day of your life. I reacted to something a couple weeks ago and had to take Benadryl - still have no idea what it was since nothing that day was new to me. Keep that Benadryl handy at all times until you pinpoin it! "

" Thanks everyone. I carry an epi pen and benadryl even though benadryl has a lactose base. Previcid ( stomach med) is a Histamine 2 and does not have lactose in it. Works really well like Benadryl.

The reaction I had at the fair with the french fries was almost exact to the one I had eating Baskin Robbins ice cream. But the ice cream one was more severe and ended me in the ER all night. I am doing some investigating. I also had Ketchup on my fries.

I seem to be developing more and more food allergies and sensitivities. I have to stick with my food routine which is okay.

I will let you know what I find out. I am going back to the fair today to talk to the snack bar.

Thanks for listening. Oleander "
