Advice:
Ibuprofen?
Watch this

I normally try to avoid medication at all costs, until I really need something. Today my neck and shoulders hurt so bad, that I borrowed some ibuprofen from a friend. After I took it I noticed my chest started to hurt and it became painful to breathe. It wasn't until about 30 min after I took it, and I didn't have anything else... I also am a bit bloated tonight. I was wondering if anyone else has had a reaction to ibuprofen, and if ibuprofen has gluten? I don't know for sure that that's why I had these symptoms, but I honestly don't know what else it could be...

" many celiacs have "non-gluten" problems.
for example, my children and I react to
the corn products in ibuprofen

it has been years, but I used to use
"Aleve" as a non-Rx NSAID
(Non-Steroid Anti-Inflammatory)

" Did you take the ibuprofen with food. If not then theres your reason. Ibuprofen on an empty stomach is a very bad thing to do. If not, then might have been something else. Not everything can be tied into gluten issues. More likely just the way your body reacts in its state.

Not that I am an expert in any way....

P.S. I had fresh lemon verbina tea last night and wow did it knock me out and give me the wierdest nightmares..

" Sarah, it might be a good idea to E-mail the manufacturer and ask. You never know when wheat, rye, barley, oat or malt in any form might be added as fillers. If you find a manufacturer who verifies that the med has no 'contaminated' fillers, you might feel safer in keeping that OTC medication around. "

" Always a good idea to check the manufacturer's website, or email them. Advil is gluten free. Any NSAID can cause stomach distress, even in people without celiac-- so it does not always mean that it's gluten or some other grain that is the problem. That is why most of the manufacturers tell you to take the product with food, and not on an empty stomach.

A list of gluten free medications is here:

" Here is some info about medications that applies specifically to US medications.

"Processed foods often contain ingredients derived from starch, such as dextrose (glucose) and maltodextrins. In the United States, these starch products are typically made from corn and are safe for people with celiac disease."

In the US, starch must be made completely from corn. The problem comes when generics are used. The binders and fillers in generics are CHEAPER because the come from FOREIGN countries where the standards are not as high as ours.

You should try the brand name meds. "
