What to expect during surgery?

I'm having cataract surgery on the 31st. They will administer a nerve block to prevent blinking and eye movement.

It is my impression that I will be awake and seeing through the eye during the surgery. This has me a bit freaked out.

Can anyone tell me what, if anything, I will be seeing? I can handle anything if I know what to expect; it's the unknown that puts me on the edge.

Thanks.

" First, luckily, they will put you under so you won't feel the needle. Maybe for about 5 minutes. Then, all you'll will be light, colors, and shadows. The shadows will be the doctor. The colors will seem like a light show. But after the surgery, normal colors will be much more brilliant! I had both eyes done within 2 months and my vision is great. I have 20/30 in one eye and 20/20 in the other. I use cheap reading glasses to read and use the computer. I love it! Congratulations on getting the surgery. It's a breeze and the results are fantastic.

" Thanks for the input, Mike. What you said helps.

I am looking forward to the results, just not the process. My dad had it done about 25 years ago and he was ectatic over the results. He could hardly wait the month they required before doing his other eye. Said he could see blues that he had not realized he could not see for years.

Last night my SO said that sometimes I'd call something red that she saw as purple. That made me realize that not only is my blue vision going to be returned (something I noticed fading over a decade ago), but also the various colors that have blue in them.

This is going to be a trip! :D

Blessings, all. "
