" My daughter, born in 1998, was born with congenital cataracts. She had surgery on her left eye when she was 7 yrs old (2005) because that particular cataract was growing 'dead center' in her lens & her doctor said she'd go blind within 6 mths to a year.

Whenever you hear something like that you'll do anything to help your child. She'll eventually need to have the surgery again on her right eye but the doctor believes he can wait until she's in her teens for that. "

" My daughter and son were both born with congenital cataracts. My kids eyes were operated on around the age of 5 years old. The eye doctor determines at what point it is bad enough to operate. We see an excellent eye specialist in Indianapolis, Indiana Dr. David Plager. I have been told he is the #2 Dr in the country. I had both of my children's surgery done at Riley Childrens hospital. All of them went very well. They did not have problems with nausea or anything. It was outpatient but they were put under anethesia. Let me know if you have any other questions. I know it isn't a fun thing to go through. Hang in there. "

" I was a baby born with Congenital Cataracts. I was born with Rubella, back in the days when the MMR Vaccine was just being introduced, in 1969. It had just been introduced, and when she went in to have the vaccine, she found out she was pregnant, and couldn't get it. So I was born with congenital cataracts, and several other birth defects, but most congenital cataracts.

I've had 9 needling type surgeries on them from 18mo-9yrs of age, then 7 lazer treatments.. After the 7 lazer treatments, I came down with Glaucoma, which is taking the rest of my sight now, and from what I understand, there's nothing they can do about it now. "
