Coping between ops.

I had the first of two cataract ops at the beginning of this week, so that my right eye, though still a bit blurred, has 'normal' vision. The problem is that my other, untreated eye, is still very short sighted, which means that I'm in a sort of visual limbo in that I can't use both eyes at once. I tried removing the lens from my old specs for the treated eye but ended up with massive double vision, and my optician confirmed that this is inevitable because of the big imbalance between the eyes. I'm tired of headaches, and am dreading the next few weeks.
Can anyone give me advice or encouragement here? Posted on 08/29/09, 06:08 am |

I've lived with a far-sighted right eye and a near-sighted left eye for about 9 months now. The left eye is the one with the cataract, of course.
I experienced the double vision, too, when I tried to correct the mismatch with glasses. One eye sees the image in one location while the other sees it in another. The "fix" is something they call a "slab off" in the lenses which is, to me, rather complicated and iffy. The only advice I can give is to remain aware that it is a temporary condition, and to minimize the use of your eyes as much as possible until your next surgery. Look forward to the time both eyes will again be the same and better than before. The interim is a small price to pay for greatly improved vision. Blessings to you. Good luck on your upcoming final surgery.
