My doctor did surgery on my right eye and put an implant to see distance and now he says he is going to put an implant in the left eye to see close, I only heard that for people with contacts, but permanently with implants I do not know if it works. Does any body know of that type of implants, does it work? are they happy with them?

" I have had implants in both eyes. One was done in 1990 and the other in 2001. During the in between time, I had a lot of problems with reading and other activities. I couldn't imagine having one eye to see far and the other to see close. I think it would be very difficult to function, but perhaps having clear but different vision in the two eyes would be different than having corrected vision in one eye but not the other. "

" I had both eyes done in a matter of months. After the surgery, my left eye was 20/20 and the right eye was 20/30. All I need now are some cheap reading glasses from Walmart. I use the 1.75 magnification. "

" I had cataracts removed in October and December. My inplants in the left eye is for close and the right eye is for far. I wore contacts like that for 22 years. I have 20/20 vision now. Don't need glassed. Just wear my sun glasses a lot. "

" Yes, I had mine done that way. It's called monovision. My right eye is for distance and my left eye was set for computer distance because that is my job. I have purchased the store bought readers for close up work, such as working on my checkbook or reading labels. I really do like it because for the most part I do not wear the readers very little. My doctor told me the brain does correct what you are looking at distance vs. close up. But some people have a difficult time with having two different visions. It does take away from your depth perception. "

" It is close to one year since I had my first surgery. So far I am very pleased, never wore any glasses. In fact I have the font on my computer on smallest. I just had my 75th birthday, and I think I am blessed.
Never outside without my sunglasses. I have several pair. "

" I had occular implants in 1992, it has been great.

I too had the "one eye for distance, the other for close-up" I had my implants one week apart.

YOu get used to it so quickly, in fact you dont' even think about it unless you close one eye and try to see (depending on whether it's the near or far vision, you'll notice the diff.)

When I first wake in the morning I don't even need my glasses, I see perfectly for a few hours. "
