Hi all, I just joined. I was in this group briefly last year but I was doing ok so left. Now I have had my wrists, especially my right wrist, flare up big time. I have to wear the braces most of the time now, not just at night. I spoke ot a hand specialist and she said the surgery can take 4-6 weeks for recovery. I didn't know it would be that long. I'm a physical therapist assistant student. I'm taking massage therapy next semester. I need my hands. I am considering going the cortisone shot route then surgery during my winter break. Any ideas on what else I can do I would be greatful for.

Also, I had planned on playing tennis. Not sure I can now. If I can, is it possible to wear a special splint to play without hurting myself more?

" Hi there.
I had the surgery on my right hand 8 days ago and it is going great. I kept the bandage on for a few days, but as an ex builder I have learned that things heal better left open to the air, so I have had the stitches uncovered since then. Surgeon wants to keep the stitches in for 3 weeks, which I think is a bit long, but oh well, what the heck!
I stopped work to have the surgery at 1.30pm and was back in the office for a couple of hours work at 4.30pm, then went out to friends for dinner.
No pain relief was needed whatsoever after the operation. I recovered from it quite quickly as I had a local anestetic only.
I am doing most normal things now (carying firewood, washing up etc). I am just not lifting anything heavy for a while, and not impacting my hand yet (hammering etc).
My hand has stopped going numb and is feeling way better.
I just wanted to say- don't let this stop you from doing what you want to do. Keep the hand moving and it will have the best chance of recovery. I get the other one done in 3 weeks. No regrets so far.
Dennis "
