I'm screwed.
I'll explain a little first. I'm 19 and about to start college in the fall. I've had this pain for years but have no idea what caused it. I went to a docter a while ago, told him how I felt and he said there wasn't anything wrong with me >:[ I'm in constant pain making it hard to do anything and at this point I'm losing sleep bc of the pain. What the heck am I gonna do? To write one page of notes is hell for me. I'm so afraid at failing at school and having this working against me doesn't make things easier. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I bother going to the docter and trying to get surgery before the fall semester? Much thanks if you took the time to read ^_^ -Meghan Posted on 06/21/09, 01:06 am |

Hi. As I've discovered you can't be too young to have CTS, no matter what the doctors say. I would suggest finding another doctor. i was lucky through most of college- I didn't notice CTS until the past couple of years. However, the last year in school was bad and now I work in a school system- I understand the notes writing pain- I think that it's much harder to hold a pen and write than it is to type. Anyway if you can find a doctor that will listen and give you a diagnosis, you may be able to go through your college's accomodations office and have the professors be required to give you pre-written notes or have a designated note taker in your class. They do this with lots of students with other disabilities (like ADHD or broken arms, so I imagine they could do the same for you).
Good luck!

Hi...by all means get a second opinion. Sounds like your doctor isn't interested in finding out what is causing you so much pain.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

Wow, definately get a second opinion. Suggestions meanwhile - if you ar having pain at night sleep with wrist splints or braces - you can get them at a drugstore or walmart. I have been doing that since I first noticed the pain a few months ago and it helps me tremendously. Also for college, get a recording device and record instead of writing notes. Hopefully you can maybe type it up later if that is not as painful or study from the recording. Another college idea is this: ask someone to copy their notes for you or see the guidance counselor about a note taker. I did that one semester for someone - I just took good, legible notes and copied them for the student that needed help. Hugs - I hope it gets better or you get a good diagnosis and some help. Sharon
