Carpal Tunnel Symptoms

I just joined this support group.

I was recently diagnosed with CTS. For a month I contended with continual wrist pain in one wrist with everything I did. At one point the pain went from my wrist to elbow and then up to my shoulder. For a couple of days after that I couldn't extend that arm behind me. It got better for a week, then got worse after holding down a cookie sheet while washing it with the other hand. Now it just hurts from my wrist to elbow and my fingers. It's really hard to grasp anything. Everytime I have to hold something in that hand it hurts. The NP who diagnosed it told me to ice it for 2-20 minute periods every night and to take 800 mgs Ibuprofin 3X per day. I have to wear a wrist brace at all times. Last night after icing it I acidentally bent my wrist upwards and it hurt.

Anyone else experience anything like this? Is there anything else I can do?

" ive recently been tested for carpol tunnel and im seeing a surgeon mid june, the night pain is bad isnt it, id wake my partener up yelling in my sleep!scared of surgery, but hate the pain, as for night i have to lie with my arms out straight beside me, little pillows stopping my elbows bending!!! my partener finds it amusing, he says its like lying next to a corpse!i feel like strangling him but my hands are now weak, and it wud hurt me more than him! try usin a thin gauze bandage under the splint? (and how annoying is typing with this prob? type a bit, stop a bit etc etc etc) drinking coffee has lost its appeal too!! hold the cup, put the cup down, etc etc etc, good look you guys!! "

" I don't know of any miracles for all of us with CTS, but I can feel your pain as well. I worked doing assembly work for about twenty years and got this problem in the last three years. I had surgery one one hand and hoped I wouldn't have to do the other since it didn't seem as bad. After a year it was showing the same symptoms at night. Numbness! In the end I had surgery on it this year too. I'm currently on Workers Compensation and I just don't know what to expect in the future. I can tell you that surgery took care of my numbness, but not the pain of doing simple tasks. I'm 52 and this is not going to be a picnic. Hang in there and I wish you the best. "

" Hello I am living with the pain doing what I can the wrist bands and splints and keeping my arm out straight also and yes the slightest movement can bring on a scream fro pain that is very unbearable. I dont have insurance and cant have surgery even though I don't know much about it. My doctor at the clinic just put me on lyrica for fibromyalgia and said it would help the carpel tunnel. My prayers are with all who suffer from cronic pain. GBU HUGS "
