Depression Over New Job?

Ok, so I finally quit my job after years of being stressed out and started a new job only a month ago. I used to exercise regularly after work, now I come home an hour later in the evening and I don't want to move, I'm so tired. The past couple of weeks I constantly feel like I'm coming down with something - weak, worn out, run-down. Went to the doctor, took blood tests, everything came back normal. I don't want to get out of bed in the morning, I'm crying all the time, I just came back from vacation and I wish I didn't have to go back to work on Monday. I don't miss the old job or the stress, but I can't figure out why the new job isn't making me happy, because it isn't that bad. Now I'm thinking it's depression and I'm tempted to go back to the doctor to ask for Lexapro, which I took years ago during perimenopause (it worked but made me gain weight). Right now I'm at a loss........

I wish I had words of wisdom but really I have more questions (which may or may not lead to words of wisdom but probably not). How long were you out of work? How different is this job than your last? Even if it's not bad I assume a new job brings on new stressors.
Anyway, Lexapro (or another antidepressant) is never an awful idea if you're depressed. It doesn't have to be long-term but it could help you get over the bumps or even figure out why the bumps exist. Also, not being able to exercise when you're used to doing it can be a huge factor in mood.

Give it some time, be nice to yourself, get plenty of sleep, take a vitamin and an extra Vitamin D (which they say we are all short of especially this time of year).
A new job can be really stressful in many ways. Every person adjusts at a different rate. Perhaps you idealized what a different job would be like, and the reality is not matching up. But give it some time and it will get better.

Time is answer. You have been through a hard time and now are free of it. The mind and body has gone Pheeew and collapsed a bit. Good long holiday needed, but impossible. It is not your new job that is the problem it is the aftermath/shock of the old job. Get one hol under belt and you will see.

To rsnation: I am one of the lucky ones who has not been laid off. I was looking to change jobs after my boss was fired and cutbacks were beginning. The new job is in a different field, one that I worked in years ago. It's all coming back to me, but not as quickly as I probably had hoped. To PumpkinPatch: Good point about what I imagined what it would be like with a different job. To Jagiello52: Aftermath of my old job! I never thought of that before! I've kept in touch with a couple of people from my old office and they've told me that several other people have resigned as well. I should probably disassociate myself from the "old" and move on to the "new". Thank you!

When a company is going through some type of failure that is deemed long-term, it is known that the most promising staff jump ship quickly b/c they have the foresight to see where things are headed and the marketability to get something good before something bad happens..
So pat yourself on the back. It is no fun to work at a place that keeps downsizing, downsizing. Much better to not be on that sinking ship.
