Hi there. I'm new here. I decided I needed a place specifically for my career changes. I was demoted from a management position to a individual contributor position a month ago. This was made even more tough because 6 weeks before that I had a relationship breakup. We were together for nearly 3 years. So, I was already "down" when this happened. It's been tough adjusting, but I know I should be thankful I work for a stable company and it is overall a good job (even at the individual contributor level). Though, deep in my heart I know I want to do leadership, so I struggle with doing work "all day" long which isn't where I want to be in the long run. How are others handling this?

" Hiya. I guess I handle it by focusing on the change--the positive potential part. I also ended a relationship at about the same time my job ended, so yeah, I agree that's especially rough. "

" Is there a professional organization that pertains to your field of work? If so, are you active in a local, regional, and/or national chapter? Do you have a page in Linked In?

The point being to begin networking with people in your field. Not only will it open up possibilities but it helps on a resume to show you've done more than meet minimum requirements.

If you have not read it, consider a book entitled "What Color is Your Parachute?" Another book is an oldie but a goodie titled "Dig Your Well Before You Are Thirsty".

Keep us posted, please.

Sincerely,

OldChurchGuy "
