Having Problems Finding Job

I got an Associates degree in Medical Technology in 2007, but after graduation and without certification, I could only find a temp job that lasted 4 months.

I got discouraged and started working in call centers because they were easy jobs to get. Well, I'd like to try again for a career working in a hospital lab and I just passed the certification exam last month. Problem is I'm worried about finding a job since I don't have any current experience in the field.

Anybody have any suggestions on finding a healthcare job after a long period of absence?

" I am trying to get back to school but I am a CNA which is easy enough to do if you can tolerate the work and new grad jobs are easy but pay isnt great. So I am in healthcare but just as a CNA. I work for hospice though and thinking about trying for the hospital so it will be easier to go back to school. I was considering medical lab training myself still researching though....other than that you could even try for jobs like food service, housekeeping to get through the door maybe. "

" new grad jobs are not easy im a grad from now 3 yrs ago and i still didnt land a job. i have AAS Network Admin no certs but working with the gov to approve me to get my certs for short term training. i found out after i grad, how these companies wont hire new grads in the medical field saying they have no experience and want experienced medical people over 10 yrs!

i go to a workforce connection which is a gov agency that u could go to in your state, attend an orientation and speak to a career counselor tell them what u r seeking. u would have take workshops, learn everything u can, and u have to do research on ur field to explain to the budget committee why its an in demand field and why u think they should approve you.

yea, its a long process and stupid. medical technology and apply to a food service job? thats a huge leap and wont be easy explaining to any employer why ur making a huge leap which we did discuss in my workshops. well, i would find entry level work of 0-3 years of experience i would stick primarily to entry level to get ur foot in the door. " I'm not too sure about going from medical technology to food service. I do have a job right now working in a bank call center. I just hate it.

Yeah, I have gone to those work connection programs for the gov't but they said they couldn't help me because I already have the degree. I think the those programs are to help you get the job skills and not necessarily the job. "

" cuz u have a degree? what kind of workforce did you go to? lots of ppl that go there have degrees and others that dont. that sounds fishy to me. anyway, so what if those places help u get job skills or learn the necessary material to help u get a job?

the one i go to in another city told us in orientation that its not their job to help u get a job, u take the workshops then u use what u learn and u get your own job. the 1st workforce i went to last year told us they have an 89% success rate of getting u a job, shit they didnt get me a job! i stopped going there because they were teaching outdated material.

but still, i would learn everything u can about this depression and the tricky ways these employers are using to stop u from getting a job. they know i have a degree and didnt turn me down i dont know how they do it in ur state sounds fucked up to me. another thing that irks me is how they have more programs for laid off professionals than those who are young and inexperienced.

by going there, i made myself a sweet new functional resume to use because i am re-entering the work world since i have a long gap in my history. this 2nd workforce i go to has been so much help than the 1st one i went to last year.

other than that, i really dont know where else i could go to for help. i found a woman's organization that helps women (similar to what im doing except they dont help u with certifications/short term training). "

" I have the same degree and never did get a job in medical coding. I was not certified. now i am an employment consultant for a non-profit. if i knew what i know now I would call employers and ask to do a "trial work experience" with them . call some hospitals and Dr. offices and take your resume and ask. all they can do is say no. I have gotten people in with this technique. good luck "

" trial work experience? sounds like a contractor its a "try b4 u buy" which is now the new thing that companies are using and makes sense for a job seeker to use them the same way a try b4 u buy to see if u fit into their lifestyle. "
