For several weeks, I have been having abdominal pain. The symptoms did not fit ulcers or gall stones, though the doctors suspected both and have ruled both out. I ended up in the ER the pain was so bad. (I have birthed 2 kids...trust me, this pain was horrible.) They could not find anything, so I was scheduled for an endoscopy.
Two days ago, my doctor called me with the results of the biopsies from the endoscopy. He said they found neuroendocrine cells in several places in my stomach. I just did the 24 hour urine test and have a ct scan on Monday. My GP said he did not know enough about this to give me definate answers and I will have an appointment soon with a gastro doctor. Trying to figure out what is going on, I did some research on the web (curse that webmd!)...I could not find anything about neuroendocrine cells that did not also mention cancer. Does the presence of neuroendocrine cells always mean cancer??? My sister - God love her, because I was frantic - said we don't know anything yet...that although the unknown might be hard, getting stressed about what might be is only going to make things worse. Very true...but I am not sleeping very well. The last 2 days I have been up at 3:30 or 4am. I guess what I want to know is what others' experiences have been. Anything is appreciated... Not to scare you or anyhting like that but if you can get the treatment that you need you need to get ok. My husband had the same thing but he waited to long to see the doctor and it was to late for him. he was told he had cancer on the feb 14 and passed away on the 29 but it was to late for him. dont let it pass we were to go to MD Anderson fin Houston for treatment because that is the only place they have some kind of treatment. He had carcinoid tumors and nueroendocrine cancer on his liver and it just progress to fast. my thoughts and prayers are with and ask alot of questions they may not know. Out doctor didn't know but i thank them because they tried everything for my husband. they wore wonderful to us. keep in touch you are in my prayes and keep the faith. Hugs, Norma
