Hi. My husband had a carcinoid tumor removed from his lung in March 2008. The surgeon said he got it all. Charlie continued to have symptoms of stomach upset, flushing, etc. The oncologist did body scans and other tests and no additional tumors were observed. However, the urine test (unfortunately, I've forgotten the name but it starts with an H) came back elevated. Charlie started on Sandostatin yesterday.

My question is, how can he have carcinoid syndrome without an actual tumor. Everything I read says that the tumors cause the syndrome. When I asked Charlie, he said because the cells are now in his blood. Does this mean that it has metastisized?

Please advise.
