Trying to undertsand why my saturation level is 97, yet I haven't quit smoking yet and was diagnosed with severe emphysema. My DR says I'm not moving any air in my lungs and put me on prednisone for two weeks. If I'm not moving any air how can my saturation level be so good?

" It is probably because your body, (lungs/heart ect.) is overworking to maintain that level. I am now on oxygen 24/7, but before this I had that same question. My #'s ran from 92 to 94. (But, upon exertion I was desaturating to 86) I asked my doc and that is what she told me. Have you had a Pulmonary Function test? This test will let you know where you are at. Hope this was helpful. " Wow Sassyme, you are sooo smart. I have a home healthcare nurse who comes two times a week and even she did not know that. From what I chave seen though you always have very wise and intelligent posts. We can all learn so much from you. Thanks!
