A few DS friends have inquired about alternative treatments for COPD. We will research together and, possibly try the treatments. (click on the "WATCH THIS TOPIC" note at the top of this entry.) We'll start with Serrapeptase. Here is info on the supplement. Please note that when you research a product the information to rely on is that which does NOT sell a product, but simply provides information. Hopefully the information can be obtained from reputable web sites. Please feel free to read the sites noted below, do a little research on your own and inform us of anything interesting. Lets do this for the next seven days and then put our heads together to decide if this treatment is something you'd like to try and is it safe. Happy reading . . .

" I'm not sure if she's in our group or just the Asthma group, but Ohana has done a lot of research on this, and has used it to good success.
Hugs, Sue "

" My stars my eyeballs have dropped out and gone into retirement.

Excellent , very excellent posts. I have spent the entire afternoon reading and re-reading. (Are you sure you are not my old school marm in disguise)
I wont go into the technicalities here as it would take up too much room but i am favourable and certainly going to give it a go.
hugs ozzie "

" I posted a site above (medscape.com) and later went to print it. There were actually 22 articles on subject as new as 2009. Two of the articles were of concern. They relate to a patient presenting with "Eosinophilic Pneumania" - serrapeptase was present when tested. Not to scare, just and FYI.
Sue, thank you. I will ask Ohana to befriend me and provide us with her findings on this topic. If she's not in our group, we'll have to reel in her anchor!! :) "

" Not trying to rain on anyone's parade here, but a note of caution....should you try any alternative medicine, whether it is herbs or otherwise, it is best to inform your doctor first. Alternate medicine can, and sometimes does, interact with other medications resulting in some not so nice consequences. If you decide to forgo your present medications it is best to inform your physician, too.

That said, whatever works for someone is a good thing. "

" Jams - thank you! I agree totally. Everyone here has a different level of medical need and, I believe, all of us are under the care of our physicians. Yes we SHOULD CONSULT OUR DOCTOR BEFORE trying any new medications or supplements. This topic is simply COLLECTIVE RESEARCH AND INFORMATION. "
