Thanks to jamsnjazzy. I was diagnosed with LPR yesterday by my Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgeon. (LARYNGOPHARYNGEAL REFLUX (LPR)
Jamsnjazzy was kind enough to post a thread about "throat mucus" a few days ago. I read it. I had throat surgery recently, for a very large thyroid mass. Right after surgery I was fine. Then, some old symptoms started reappearing and worsening. Feeling of a lump in my throat; hoarseness, throat phelgm, horrible taste in my mouth, coated tongue; waking with a feeling of drowning and/or choking. All of those problems and more made me very unwell. Lack of appetite, weight loss, weakness from not eating, trouble sleeping. Yesterday, was my 1 month surgery follow-up with the ENT Surgeon. He listened. He heard me; and looked at my voicebox, and vocal cords. "Burned"; as he put it, by severe acid reflux. Even though I have NO heartburn? Yup, as I have what jamsnjazzy referred to as "silent reflux". Acid reflux can play havoc with breathing and ability to speak. It can damage the throat (cause inflamation, mucus build-up, etc.) New diet and medications for me. The treatment for LPR is very similar to GERD. Great thing about being on DS and having contact with others is the knowledge I gain; that I can not find on my own. Thanks to ALL on this site that provide valuable information to those of us in need. Posted on 11/03/09, 04:11 am |

So glad you were able to get the diagnosis. I have LPR, too, and it can be tricky getting your diet and meds right, but once you do, it WILL get better, Oh and raise the head of your bed on blocks or bricks. Have someone help you with that.
Love, Sue
