Alternatives

I would like to start a discussion on alternative treatments for emphysema. For the most part, all most people know are inhalers of one kind or another and I think in the long run they may do more harm then they help. I know some people can not get along with out them. In addition, the ways some of us have come up with with the use of oxygen, ie When my nose hurts, I just use it with my mouth, I have a oximeter and have checked my oxygen level and its the same. i'm sure others have found some helpful suggestions. Anyhow, MD's have a one track mine and will not stray much off it. We are left up to ourselves to discover alternatives. Roger

" If there were some alternative treatments that worked I am all for it. The trouble is there are so many things out there that say they will heal us and they are all scams.
have you tried anything that has helped you?
I would like to know if something else could help us all.
Hugs,
Nellie "

" Roger, I'm Mike and glad you posted this thought.

I'll attempt to be brief. My thoughts are on the same lines as you stated. Although I would never toss away the medical knowlege as practiced today, perhaps there are conjugative alternatives to assist conventional treatments. A better mouse-trap, maybe?

I have to use only one inhaler. Combivent. Contains a rapid acting chemical and a longer acting chemical to relax the airways from constricting, enabling easier breathing. I also, with my doctors concern, ingest N-acetyl cysteine along with denatured whey protein concentrate. Together these two compounds allow my body to produce the much needed anti-oxidant Glutathione. Glutathione is the master anti-oxidant which is required for all animals and plants.

I won't go further into details, it would take days for me to try to explain, (smile) but my body has been far better for it. I see a physician evey six months. One year ago when I walked into the office she surprisedly exclaimed how well I look. A rather unusual statement from a doc. I also take a variety of vitamins and suppliments.

To me this sounds simular to your thinking? I do agree with you sir, in as much as there is no reason not to think 'out of the box' as is sometimes said.

I'm age 71, Have had emphysema for almost six years. It's not progressing and stable. I know the damage to lung cells are irretrievable, but perhaps I can try to stop further damage as is usually the case.

Although I have never had the need for oxygen, your words of how you use it is a great idea. Hope you can write with more of your thoughts?

My very best wishes to you,
Mike "

" I am currently researching alternatives as my inhalers make me ill. The doc just wont listen. I have kept one inhaler as an emergency. and am currently working on an exercise regime. So far, all is good.
Also looking at AIRBORNE but unavailable here, working on it.
Hugs

" I'm one of the gullible people who have coughed up (ha ha) for one of the miracle "cures" which are advertised on this page. I'd better not say which one, just in case, but just want you all to know that it did absolutely nothing. That's just my experience though.

However, I am still optimistic that there might be something out there and just recently I saw some interesting data on SERRAPEPTASE. Does anyone know of this? I don't look on this one as a scam as it is available as an over-the-counter medication at many health food shops and pharmacies, not just via a website. It's supposed to work on scar tissue in the lungs, for one thing, but is useful elsewhere within the body. "

" Hi Barcoo,
I had never heard of Serrapeptase until you mentioned it. I looked it up on the net and all the info sounds really good. I think I would be willing to give it a try if its not to expensive. Hate to spend money on something that doesn't work but if it works than i'd be fine with that. I have fallen for scams too and have wasted a lot of money on them. We should compare wastebaskets with each other.I will tell you one though and that is the A & B soup from Wei Labs. I wasted alot on that one.
Looking forward to getting to know you.
Hugs,
Nellie "

" I need to make an apology. In my earlier post in this topic I was disparaging about a company which advertised a "cure" for emphysema on this web site. After I had posted my comments I was still a bit fired up so I sent an email to them saying that I thought they had ripped me off.
They have responded twice since then - the first time to say it was unfortunate that it had not worked and would I like a refund or a replacement. The second time - I was informed that they had credited my Paypal account with the purchase price.
I am very surprised and pleased and as I said I eat my words. I should have discussed it with them before I ran them down on this forum. "

" Hello Dogman and everyone else, I looked into the "Buteyko" method of breathing that was mentioned on this site a couple of days ago, I found there is a class for it here in Seattle which I am checking into now, if it works half as good as is claimed by the participants then it can't be all that bad, we'll see. Hey Dogman, I see you reside in NM, I have been thinking about Ruidoso, NM for a relocation area because of the year around relative low humidity & the beauty of it to be honest, ever been? "

" If the cost for the Buteyko breathing techniques are too expensive in the U.S you can watch all 18 sessions on utube but they are rather long so if you know how to download and copy (which i don't) then u could save quite a few dollars. I did it this way because i live in a remote area and there is nothing available here i watched episodes 1,2,6,8,10,11,12,13,14 and i have the hang of it. I feel it helps me. Especially sleeping with my mouth closed and nose breathing thru the night i am not waking up as breathless...hugs ozzie "

" ps i am not saying its a cure, just that it helps me. Because of sleeping with my mouth closed my phlegm comes up easier in the morning (yukky thought, sorry), my throat isnt as sore and dry and i definately have more air in the mornings, normally a very bad time for me ....hugs again oz "

" Unfortunately, when Daily Strength was bought by HSW International, the ads (for everything under the sun) just quadrupled! The disadvantages of having a free support site!

I think it's important to remember how long Emphysema has been around and if these "alternatives" worked, they would have been trumpeted long ago! Myself, I'll stick with the tried and true, LTOT! "
