Can someone tell me if it has happened to them before. Today for the 2nd time in 6 or 8 months, I have had a coughing fit- so bad that I couldnt stop for over an hour- I would caugh & then caught again 45 seconds later -- off & on for an hour! It was horrible & I could NOT stop! I used my rescue inhaler & that didn't stop it either. It's actually scary & people look at you like youre doing it on purpose. I ran in the bathroom thinking I was chocking so bad I would be sick, but I wasn't, just could not stop. Has this happened to anyone else & what did you do?

" You can always count on people here trying to help!! I am onlisinipril for high bp & was sent a link that it has been known to cause coughing in some. It could be that - I will check -- but the greatest part of all this is ---- we all have this disease & so many go out of their way to help others when they aren't feeling so hot themselves!!! Some people are amazingly caring -- thank-you L-- "

" I saw my Pulmonary Doc as a F/U and told him about my cough. He prescribed Methylprednisolone (a cortiosteroid). I finished it today and so far I'm cough free.
I have the feeling of a lump in the back of my throat (which is caused by GERD) and secretions in the back of my throat would seem to cause a coughing fit.
I'll see if the medicine keeps on working. "

" I have severe bouts of coughing too. So reading all these suggestions, something caught my eye that bjrapp2020 said - dry mouth! I get that from time to time. So I need to keep lozenges around to create moisture in my mouth. When I get coughing it is usually a dry cough, sometimes with a little phlegm, but as a whole I just keep coughing for no apparent reason. I wonder if it could be a result of dry mouth. "

" Carol, that is possible -- do you take high blood pressure medicine? "

" Joany, read your comment about the lozeng and coughing and wanted to assure you I spit that out as soon as I feel a cough coming on. Sometimes I cough enough it irritates my throat and that soothes it. Your advice is very good advice and I should have included that in my comment. Thanks
BJ "

" Joany...That was a good reminder!

Dry mouth is common with some of the meds we take. Sue once recommended Biotine (found in drugstores). You spray it in your mouth and I see they've been advertising it on t.v. it has really helped me.

I have a morning cough, which I relate to wearing a CPAP at night..things seem to get clogged up a bit. That's not too bad, but the "coughing spasms" are the pits. Throat seems toget a dry scratchy patch all at once and there it goes...end up with watery eyes, red face and sore ribs. Scary and embarrassing all at the same time. "
