Good Morning all my Daily Strength friends.. I need advice on this medication that my Pulomary Dr. perscribe for me last week. Not that I do not trust him I do but this medication is a older medication he said to open the lungs. Let me tell you why he perscribe this med. I went into the office for a monthly exam. I have been waking up with SOB. I am on Advair twice a day, and Spriva once a day and Combienvent for emergency. So he thought I should try this capsule to see how I feel and if I have anymore SoB in the night. My question is this since I trust you guys has any of you heard of this medicine? Or are you using it now? Please let me know I have not taken it yet. I do not like taking a lot of meds.. And boy I am on alot of stuff. Hugs. Sandi B.

Theophylline, an oral bronchodilator medication, is given to treat symptoms of asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. Theophylline is a chemical cousin of caffeine. It opens the airways by relaxing the smooth muscle that circles the tubes and blood vessels in the lungs.

Sandi, go ahead an try it, but pay close attention to your body. It can make your heart race, and other symptoms similar to caffeine. Yes, it's an old drug, but for many people, like myself, it's not helpful. So just give it a week or so, and watch how you react. Then report in to the doctor.
It could very well be the help you need. Let us know! Hugs, Sue

here's my 2 cents..for what it's worth. i was taking it for awhile. the warning things always make me weary....but i was taking it. then i realized that i was supposed to really cut my coffee! doc didnt mention that to me. and i realized, it made no difference in my breathing. i think he'd told me it was to make my lungs stronger. it didn't. but i had to wean myself off of it. (as per the doc).
good luck with it, but make sure you read all the warnings. margaret

Sandi...
Here is another good source of information regarding Theo-24. I remember once my doctor saying it is not that commonly used these days as there are other, better medications for asthma and COPD. The following bears out what my Doctor said, however, there may be another reason your own doctor has prescribed it for you. Good luck! Joni http://www.nationaljewish.org/heal... P.S. Have you ever been tested for sleep apnea?

It is a very old med, and if you take it, you insist on having blood draws every few months whether your doctor wants it or not, as this stuff builds up in your system and can create a whole new set of problems for a while. I did not read Jams article but because of where it is from, I will say it is probably a very good read with good info in it. Take with care and talk with doctor.
Have a good day!
