You probably just added years to your life for sure if you didn't stop smoking for every puff you would have more and more damage .
Gratz on breaking the habit now your lungs have a fighting chance . Not one single one of us has an expiration date stamped on the bottom of our foot . You haven't been given a death sentence . You will have to change your life style a bit to work around it but you still have a whole lot of living to do . Hang in there its a very tough pill to swallow at first but knowing your not alone helps so much . Keep asking questions and welcome to C&E Janice

We're all going to die of something or other sooner or later. We're all working to make that later, much later, and to make the best life possible in the meantime. You've taken a difficult step and it's the most important thing you can do, so don't give up. You'll find that everyone on this site either quit smoking or is in the process now, so you're in good company here. Welcome to our community. Hugs, Joan

Hey there, welcome to the group. Scary isn't it? Thinking about dying? I know for me, I never gave it too much thought. Like Joan says, sooner or later we all go. And, as Janice points out - there's no expiration date stamped on your body.
For me, the diagnosis brought to the very front of my brain - the realization I have to make different choices in my life if I want to give myself time and energy. By reading the information, implementing some lifestyle changes, and being around very supportive people here, I am able to empower myself to enjoy what I have and appreciate what I can do. For this, I have no regrets even if I get hit by a bus tomorrow. Along with Bunny, I know how hard it is to stop smoking. Hopefully, the Smoking group will offer you a bag of 'tricks' to keep the 'crazies' down.

Hey there buddy,Again Welcome, to this wonderful group,You have made a fantastic decision, and boy it's not easy, I was diagnosed with Emphisemeia and have been smoke free for going on 5 months now.
This will get us all in the end my friend, but by stopping smoking we are extending our availiable time left.which could be considerable. Time to make lifestyle changes and by being part of this group we will help you make those changes. Be proud of stopping. Hugs James

Welcome to our group! Although I'm sure you aren't happy about the circumstances. Congratulations on quitting smoking! That is the very best thing that you can do to improve your quality of life. I hope that you are under the care of a good pulmonologist. With proper diet, medications, exercise, and not smoking, you may be able to stop the progression of the disease. Stick around, there are many wonderful people here, and you will learn a lot. Hugs, Sue

Ditto on welcoming you to the group. I felt the same way at first. I finally quit smoking and then the next year I put on alot of weight and almost felt worst. Now I have lost weight and eating properly not smoking and I feel better than I have in several years. And I hope this will add years to the time I have left.

Hello camartin, I too was recently diagnosed with COPD. I am also a new non smoker. At 3pm today it will be 5 days since I've had a cigarette. If you haven't already joined the smoking cessation group I highly recommend it. We could be quitting pals since we are both new at this.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Lori
