A dear friend's son-in-law has been diagnosed with this dreaded disease. For the past year they thought he had MS. I have googled CADASIL, but I can't understand all the medical terms. Can someone explain it to me like I am 10 years old? Is this a form of MS? He's in his 40's.
I'm going to log on to the site mentioned here. Any help will be greatly appreciated. God Bless, Becky Posted on 06/06/09, 04:06 am |

Hi Becky. CADASIL is a disease that effects the tiny blood vessels in the white matter of the brain. it causes headaches and migraine type symptoms. It is a genetic desease inherited from one of your parents. If one parent has CADASIL there is a 50% chance that you will inherit it. Its not nice when its first diagnosed and you think your world has ended. The first thing to say is that people with CADASIL can live a long and happy life. Many people who have frequent migraine type headaches and other symptoms cope well with support and medication. Yes you can be more at risk with strokes but with careful management and advice from your GP you can get on with your life. Take care

Len, Thank You for the info. I'm going to send your reply onto my friend. I think the 'not knowing' is actually worse than any disease.
