Advice:
Pressure garments?

I had 2nd & 3rd degree burns from my neck to waist, most of both arms and the backs of my hands in March this year. I had grafts on almost all areas. I was fitted, and refitted, and refitted for pressure garments - gloves, long sleve shirt and bike short type thing for the graft harvest areas on my legs. First day wearing garments opened new wounds on everypleace that bends - elbows, each finger joint, wrists, etc. Went for a refittiing 2 more times, now they don't open new wounds for 48 hours, but I still can't seem to wear them as recommended (23 hours a day, every day). I have hypertrophied raised scar tissue that is red and ugly. It looks like dripped wax on my body, except in the places where the grafts look like a waffle. My doc says if I wear the garments as ordered it will even out and soften my skin eventually. Any suggestions other than another fitting to make wearing them tolerable without constant ly opening fresh healing skin?

Other than constant lotion, claritan, benedryl and atarax, any suggestion for out of this world nonstop itching?

And for not sweating to death in them? I seem to cycle between being too hot while wearing them, sweating then being cold because of wet garments.

Sorry for somplaining so much, I just can't seem to get used to the new skin.

" Grace,

My son has been going down this road for over 2 yrs. now. He was 97% burnt with 88% was 3rd degree he is scarred from his collar bone to his ankles. They had to take half of every finger on both hands he was lucky enough to keep his thumbs. He had fill body pressure suits, which they now have discontinued! Why did they do that so soon? He had had enough!!!!! The last suit they make for him when we got it he though it in the corner and that is where it stayed!
So I understand what you are saying about the frustration that goes along with the pressure suits!
My son's scars look great! Yea they are discolored but smooth and soft. He had a few spots that were raised, white and restricting his movement but they did a Z pastie on them and they look really good, considering.
The thing that gets him through all of this the best is the attitude about the scares, sweating, itching all of it, is this......"I've walked though the fires of hell and lived to tell the tale! I'm proud of my scares and I'm glad to show anyone, anytime and show children not to mess with fire and teach them not to fear people who look different!" Even though he was in an explosion at work he quick to tell kids to be fire safe. He has excepted his scars and all that goes with them.
The one thing he had been really faithful about using is Elta cream for the scares. It really works wonders!
Try and stay cool it helps with the sweats and itching. And if it gets to be just to much don't feel guilty about tossing the suit in the corner for a while when you really need a break! Our well being is sometimes more in our minds then our body.

Stay strong!
Denise "

" No real advice from me. My burns were so long ago. I know my mom battled the same thing for me as a child. I just wanted to send some support your way and let you know that I'm truly sorry for all that you're going through. I wish you well as you heal! "
