Breastfeeding Support Group
While breastfeeding is recommended by many doctors, it is not as simple as it seems. This is a community dedicated to parents who are choosing to breastfeed, providing a safe place to discuss everything from pumping, to questions of whether baby is getting enough, weaning, breast care, scheduling, supply, and more.
I started with skin to skin contact as soon as we could and asked for lactation support immediately in the hospital. Made all the difference. You should be fine.
I had a crash c-s with #3 , and the first 2 weeks, bb could not eat anything anyway. I would set my alarm, and get up, and pump, all the time. The more you pump, the more often you pump, the more you will make!
Try to have a lactation consultant now..Maybe there is one at the hospital? If not, it is good to have one for back-up, just in case. Ideally, somebody you know before you have your baby.
And remember, your determination is one half of the equation. If you make up your mind to bf, than most likely you will succeed. If you think that you will fail, if you agree that they "supplement" with formula...then your baby may well end up on formula long-term. Every time you give formula, you fail to stimulate your breasts to produce milk, and your supply will further dwindle. It is a vicious cycle...
I remember this one older nurse who made me laugh. She said "I'm not worried about you, honey, you've got enough milk in there for 3 or 4 babies."
Your body will know it's time to start, and remember, it's a supply and demand business. Keep up the demand (through feeding or pumping) and the supply will follow.
