7 month old eating schedule

Jonah has been doing great with cereal and baby food twice a day since we started him gradually at around 4 months. He's now getting about 2 tbls of oatmeal with 2-3 tbls of baby food morning and night, and breastfeeds every 3-4 hours during the day. I'm thinking about adding in a lunchtime meal and wondered if anyone had advice about what kind of eating schedule they had around this 7 month time. I'm not sure if I should start stretching out his breastfeeding times to 4 hours more consistently - I definitely still want breast milk to be his primary nutrition source, but I feel like he may be interested in a lunch meal, too. Any advice?

" I started our son on lunch around 8 months, but didn't introduce any solids until 6 months. He wakes around 8 eats about 8:30, lunch around 1 and dinner about 6:30. He nurses 4 or 5 times during the day and 2 or 3 times at night. He ate a small jar of food at every meal. Hope that helps. Let me know if you want to know anything else. "

" Breastmilk should be his primary source of nutrition for the first year, but adding in lunch at 7 months is fine. At 7 months, our schedule looked somthing like this:
7:00 Nurse
8:00: breakfast (cereal/fruit)
10:00: Nurse
12:00: lunch (veggie/fruit)
2:00-3:00pm: Nurse
5:00: Nurse
6:00: Dinner
8:00: Nurse

Then, I'd nurse during the night if/when necessary. "

" Similar to smp, TJ didn't start with 3 meals a day until around 8 months because we didn't start solids until 12 months. However, 3 meals a day at 7 months is perfectly fine as long as breastmilk remains the primary source of nutrition. When we did introduce a third meal, TJ's schedule looked something like this:

Between 7 and 7:30 - wake up and nurse
About 8:30 - Breakfast
10 a.m. - Nurse and usually nap
1 p.m. - Usually (hopefully he'd napped this long!) get up and nurse
1:30 - Lunch
5 or 5:30 - Nurse
6 or 6:30 - Dinner
7 or 7:30 - Bed

I also nurse at night, if needed. "

" The number one thing is to remmeber to always bf on demand...whenever your baby is hungry or in want of booby milk. If you put him on any sort of schedule, you risk messing up your supply. (This is different, of course if yo have to be separated because of work reasons).

You can let him taste a little bit of anything on your plate, if you wish to. Cereal is actually no longer recommended a a "starter" food for bf babies....mash up some fruits and veggies instead.

And as the others have said, remember bm should be the #1 food source until 12 mths of age. "

" I 100 percent agree with Franny about bf on demand, however, I will say that TJ naturally fell into a schedule. Especially when they're more mobile, it's sometimes tough to tell when they're hungry. A sure sign for me is when he's getting crabby! "
