Radiation therapy

I have been so sick with this chemotherapy, and I finally feel better today. Two more times to go and then I am supposed to go for radiation.

I am not all happy about going because the doctor said the tumor is out, and I'm going for chemo as a precaution. I had 1 lymph node affected and it was called Stage 2 breast cancer, but the doctor said it was almost not Stage 2 because of the only 1 lymph node.

I am afraid that since the tumor was so close to the underarm, that radiation will cause lymphodema, and I don't want that. Also, if the chemo kills all the cells, why do I have to have radiation if there is nothing really there and the tumor is gone.

Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone out there had chemo and not radiation. I know a lot of women had radiation and not chemo, but don't know anyone who had chemo and not radiation.

" I did not know at time , but radiation is used for preventing reoccurance. My cancer was "gone" after the mastectomy! The chemo was to reduce the size of my tumor and I had 20 lympnodes remove with 3 testing positive. The odds are not bad but still scary. I still have not developed any lymphodema signs, But I have been doing my excercises given to me by The American Cancer Society. Most of my pain was from having the nodes removed, but I had a lot take out. I am still numb and worry about reoccurance.I do not know of anyone who had chemo and not radiation, but like you said some have had radiation and not chemo??? Hope this helps!!! Much Love to you...CINDY "
