Did anyone have chemo first?

I have a biopsy scheduled for both breasts on July 3rd and then I'll find out the results on July 18th. My mother died from breast cancer in 2004 but I have no other family history. Needless to say I'm going nuts with worry and have been looking into the latest and greatest treatments available. I see that sometimes they do chemo first now. Did anyone here do that? Were they able to do just a lumpectomy afterwards?

If it turns out to be BC I'm concerned I won't be able to get reconstruction because I'm going through the county hospital district. I lost my health insurance when I lost my job in 2010. Right now I'm living on disability for depression but I get too much to qualify for Medicaid. Anyway, if I have to get a mastectomy I will, but I'd rather not if possible.

" My mum had chemo first then a lumpectomy then a single mastectomy then radiation. She had the mastectomy because she got frustrated as they explained they would take a lump off, check it, then maybe go back and take some more off, check it, maybe take some more...ad infinitum and she didn't want lots of bitty time off work, so she just thought she would save time and get the mastectomy.
