I don't know your friend, but I always like to assume that people don't mean these things the way they come out. It always loses something in the translation from spoken word to written. I'm sure she didn't mean it to sound like breast cancer is a trifle just that there is also another cause to be aware of not just the one. I hope I am right. Don't lose a friend over an unintentionally insensitive comment.

I agree she may not have meant it like that. She probably has her own reasons why she said it which are not to do with you. It must be devastating to lose a baby like that and due to the painful and sensitive nature of the subject not many people like to speak about it, and the charities behind it do not get much air time. So she may feel like her pain is being ignored - not by you but by society in general.

Sadly some people are only concerned with themselves. I spend a lot of time on yahoo answers, trying to help people in the cancer section, and there are both men and woman who complain about breast cancer awareness. Ignore her...what comes around goes around. Yes, she should have said "ALSO"....not JUST...which was quite rude of her. Exactly: Pain is not a competition. A loss is a Loss...and so is Cancer.

I'm sure she didn't mean to say that breast cancer is not important. It's just that breast cancer gets so much press that she may feel alone in her cause.

I am an endometrial cancer survivor. You never hear of that in the press either. I know that I sometimes feel like no one recognizes it as breast cancer takes center stage all the time. But that's just how it is! It doesn't mean I don't care about my sisters who are breast cancer survivors. Their pain is very bit as bad as mine.

Personally I believe that Women's Cancer is the real issue for all of us. We need ONE VOICE...ONE CAUSE... a CURE!

I'm sorry. I've heard so much from strangers, aquaintances, and what not! I can't tell you all I heard! But my Best Friend said, God has been trying so hard to take you away. You suffered so long. He must want you really bad! Or all of the comments & yelling. I got for Cutting off my 3' long Angel/Barbie Trademark Hair!! When I didn't have one hair left on my Body from being so Chemo ravished! I hope she, your friend didn't mean it! I thought Breast Cancer awareness was in October? When my Dear Husband wanted a Green Bay Packer's Breast Cancer pink Hat. He had a hard time finding it! One place said well the month is half over, What's the Point? We hear so much! Both your journey and hers is so sad, hurting and a forever hurt. I too Want prevention and A Cure! However when we get a crumb of Love, care, empathy, compassion, care, understanding we have to take it. And let go.. The bad talks and misspeaking. For Stress is suppose to be a factor in Cancer!? As a long term survivor that became activist with the only 2 first groups National Breast Cancer Coaltion and W'ME; that went to Washington DC to bring awareness to breast cancer, in a very political way,October as breast cancer awareness, it did not just happened, we had to lobby,call,talk, fax,Internet in 1991 was not what is now.
I understand the mothers pain. But October is for the thousands even millions that are or can be breast cancer patients.
Personally, as an activist, too many take advantage to make money of October Breast Cancer month.
You can go to NBCC and search for a list of the companies that really give to B.C. like Avon, Estee Lauder.
Sorry to say that others spend more money in PR and publicity than actual programas or aid.

It is also something else month. She is hurting also. Choose your battles this one I would say forget it.

I have boob cancer and I have lost a child. I will tell you I do not need an awareness month for either. Some people hold on to their pain so hard, that it comes out angry. They feel like they are standing in the middle of the mall, screaming and nobody is listening. Let your friend scream, then tell her you love her. She just needs somebody to hear her.

The Month of October, can't believe in January we do, is to remember our sister warriors that died, remind the living to have mammograms and give a positive support to the ones in treatment.
