Breast Cancer Support Group

Hi, dnvrgrl. how kind of you to support your friend like this. I always appreciated people letting me talk about my cancer when I was scared, though they probably got bored. I also appreciated conversations that had nothing to do with cancer so that I could get out of my own head for awhile.
Pre-cooked meals were very helpful, time watching the kids so I could nap after chemo/surgery/radiation, and laughter. Comedies and stand up comedians were particularly helpful.

Thank you Nova....I appreciate your words...... I need to be as prepared for her as I can be. She trusts me with her emotional side of things. I need to be able to do whatever I need to help her with whatever..

I am preparing for whatever comes. I have to.....I have always taken care of her when she needs me. And I wont fail her now......

Well, it's excellent you will be there for her, please don't lose sight of being there for yourself. You need to take care of you before you can take care of anyone else. Kind of like the oxygen masks on the plane. Hugs to you and your friend.

Listen. Laugh. Love. You have all the right instincts and you know your friend better than anyone.

Take her cues and make sure to take time to take care of yourself.

Thank you both for your replies!! I really appreciate it.

My own drs are aware of what is going on.... So they have given me my own set of orders to follow. To include 15 minute daily walks and rest.

What you all say about Holistic approach? She found a center here in San Diego that does things like coffee enemas. Seems odd to me.

I have plans to take her to another pro football game..and she wants to see a Dodgers game. I will go wherever she wants to go...... our road trips are a blast...

It is wonderful to have a friend that asks "how are you"and really has the time and interest to hear the full response.

What really bugged me was those well meaning souls who would say things like "my cousin's sister's mother had that. She went to Mexico and had scorpion venom inserted rectally and was cured in two days".

I did get some helpful advice but appreciated it most when I asked for it.

The best thing any of my fiends did for me was Pat who had a friend die of a different kind of casncer before. She called me and said "I know you are going to need infusions. You need someone to drive you there and sit with you during the infusions. I can do that. Your family is doing so much, please let me take care of this one task for you. I will take you to all your infusion appointments whatever day and time you schedule them for and we can talk or I can just sit and read a book or whatever you need." Pat did that and I thank her often because it relieved my family of that task. They were already overloaded helping me with doctor's apointments, etc and did not have the hours free to sit with me through all the infusions.

It is wonderful that you care enough to check this out for your friend. Follow her lead and yhou heart and I'm sure you will do the bestt hing possible for your friend.
