Will I ever get over him?

I just got out of a 2 1/2 year relationship about 8 months ago and I am still having a VERY difficult time getting over him. We had a very good loving relationship besides the fact that he couldn't be faithful, which is the main reason we fell apart. But I have always felt that we were meant for each other and that fate brought us together in the first place. I feel like I have been through all the phases and emotions, but I still can't let him go. I was very prominent on making sure I could be by myself before I tried to move on. I knew I was going to have to let it hurt instead of trying to cover it up by being with someone else. 6 months after the break up was when I started to try to move on, and although I have met nice guys, they just aren't the same. I feel like I have no emotion towards anyone else and the connection just doesn't compare. I haven't been down or sad the entire breakup, I went through a phase where I felt free and excited to experience new things in my life. But now I feel like I have come to a dead end. I miss him soooooooooo much and I have no idea if he misses me at all. This was my first real relationship and I am just looking for some advice from people who have been through this. Does it get better or is he always going to be the only one I want to be with??? please help!

" As beings that have the capacity to fall in love, we sometimes fall under the impression that there is only one person for us on this planet, and when that relationship ends, "the one" is gone and we'll never find it again. This is not true. There are many people who we will be compatible with in our lifetime. Because of the heartache, we fail to acknowledge this.

First, let me make a suggestion. Change your profile pic. With a picture like that, what you're doing is reminding yourself that you are hurt (which is fine during the initial stages) but at some point you need to start making small changes in your life to move towards getting better.

Second, remember that it's a two way street. Why would you want to be with someone who doesn't want to be with you? Every second you spend thinking about him is a second you won't get back and you're wasting time and energy thinking about someone who does not deserve it.

Not going to sugarcoat it, maybe you will never find someone with a connection like that again. But there's also a chance you might find someone who will be 100X better than this last guy. But unless you accept completely that it is over, your mind won't allow you to see the good in new people.

Continue to work on yourself and strive to get to a point in life where no one will be able to hurt you again. It all starts with loving yourself, as cliche as that sounds. Good luck! "
