i had a TBI and was smoking alot of weed because i felt it was the only thing that made me happy. it wasnt true happiness and i realized that and got so depressed i crashed my car. i have now quit smoking weed because it may not kill brain cells but it messes with ur thinking, and thats the last thing a TBI survivor needs. I believe that the weed is bad. I suggest u try to get him to not quit right away but slow down. have him smoke at nite before he goes to bed and only if he gets certain things done each day. it'll be like a reward each day. i know that sounds horrible to have weed be a reward but i know he wont just quit. ive been there. i wish u the best. im praying for u

my husband is the same way with the wishing that he would have just died in the accident. he gets very depressed & says & has done horrible things. he thinks that because he is not allowed to drive, that his life is over, or might as well be. i think that you need to tell his Dr how he is behaving and see if they can adjust his meds & get him into therapy. i have tried to do this with my husband & there has been a huge amount of resistance from him. he doesn't want to be on meds or see a therapist. it's very frustrating and i know how you feel. sometimes i think, well, if he's gonna give up, then why shouldn't i give up too? if he wants to live in misery and be depressed all of the time, and doesn't even want to help himself get better... it's so hard. it's the hardest thing that i've ever been through being the only person that's ever there for him. i don't have the answers, but i'm here for you! :)

refuse to allow his brothers to enter the house confiscate the stuff, I would report it to the police and possibly even get a restraining order. the weed destroys brain cells and the threat of suicide is just that, a threat. It is part of the frustration of misunderstanding or not being able to do what he remembers or think he can still do. The memory is like that of an amputee. They still have feeling in the non existant body part. It just takes patience an understanding on your part. Don't threaten him or ridicule him but ask him to teach you just How weed is good for you and to tell you ALL the side effects. Make him part of his recovery process.

I don't know if your husband is getting violent towards you if you would stop him. What I would tell him it is of course how much you love him, and how much you would like him to stay alive and be positive do all you can to avoid the subject of TBI and focus on the things he can do. I also had a lot of rage in me and I broke down and started on some antidepressants. With the memory loss I used ginkgo baloba, it helped me build up my memory, and I would exercise my brain with sudoku, or any word puzzles on the Internet. I know this has helped me because I had to stop taking ginkgo baloba, because it interacted with another medicine while I was taking in the hospital for a unrelated surgery. You could also try pre-occupying him by taking him to a comedy club where he could do some laughing or do things he likes to do. I know that some religions even frown upon smoking. Try to convince him to fight against this. I did, I was strapped in a wheelchair and I fought hard to get into my own apartment, so I am a success story that has recently been diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome, life is harder, much harder but I am thankful for what I have. No I can't run or jump right now but with stem cells happening in the near future there is a good chance to return to almost normal. Or tell him, if you love me that much you quit. I don't think getting him in trouble is the answer because it may lead to revenge, and that would not be a good outcome, messing with testosterone. Let him know, depression brings you down too. But make sure you look him in the eye and be serious. Just don't make promises you cannot keep or follow through with it. Best of luck it will be hard but!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
