PARANOID!!!!!

Are there any other TBI survivors out there that have extreme paranoia? My husband is a TBI survivor and it seems like he keeps getting more & more paranoid about people wanting to steal belongings from him (us) or breaking into the house & shooting us. It's getting to the point that he is making very bad decisions because he is so paranoid, and nobody can reason with him. Example: he has a very dangerous dog (lives outside of the house) that is able to get loose whenever he feels like and I am worried about the safety of our 2 1/2 yr old daughter. He wants to keep the dog because he is a guard dog & will alert him if someone is lurking around. I feel that the reasonable thing to do is to get rid of the dangerous dog and get a guard dog that is not so viscious. (This dog has bitten people in the past & has attacked & killed our pet cats & the neighbors too) Sometimes I just don't know how to reason with him. Even before the TBI he was a little bit paranoid & didn't have the same logic that I did. If anyone else out there has been through anything like this, I would love to get some feedback! Thank you!!!

" I had paranoia that someone was watching me or videoing my every move. I don't know what else to call it, but paranoia! It has improved and literally gone away, but it has been 4 years of recovery for me.

About the dog, yeah that dog sounds alittle dangerous. I personally would not allow it around my child. There are many dogs, that can be trained to guard and protect. A new puppy may be a good choice. It will bring something new and exciting to your husband, as well as a break from I am sure constant fear in your home and outside play. :) nsm "

" Thanks for the reply! Were there any meds that helped the paranoia? Or was it basically a phase that you had to heal through? It's hard enough getting him to take his meds without adding more, but if there is help out there, I am willing to give it a try!
I'll keep you posted on the dog situation. I am going to back off for awhile and see what happens. I'm not changing my mind about it, but maybe if I let up, hopefully he will come to understand & agree with me. "

" My TBI occurredover 3 yrs ago and within probably the first 3 mos I had similar feelings as nsm thinkging someone was watching me even in my own house. I also thought someone was following me in the car and even thought tht someone was trying to send messages to me though the words in Christian music/radio.

My paranoia took about 2 years to disapear. As far as medcations, I was put on different psychotropic drugs prescirbed from a Psychiatrist. I don't remember what I was put on, but I'm not even on an antidepressant since Feb 2009.

Father God, I ask that you help this wife get her husand the treatment he needs for his paranoia. I can attest that it is because of the TBI, and that with the right intervention he could e helped drastically as in my situation.

God, I also lift this wife up to you in giving her patience with respect to the TBI, although I know that is a difficult thing whe your loved one is in the throws of various issues at it relates to the TBI.

I lift this prayer up through Your Son's Holy, Precious and Wonderful name, Jesus Christ. Amen

Sheila "

" Well - this is very interesting. I have had 3 major blows to my head - the last one caused a brain hemmhorage (sp?). I am absolutely sure that I am being followed and that my home is being broken into when I'm gone.

I do have some proof of the break-ins but not of the following. I wish I knew what to do about this too. Good luck with your husband and the dog. "
