Frustration? common symptom?

I wonder how common this is in tbi/mtbi. I was in severe pain for many years and it wasn't until months after the pain was corrected by NeuroCranial restructuring that I came to realize that I was wrestling with symptoms common to mtbi. I had to look back 12 years and now that i'm 3 years into recovery from the pain, it's just more and more obvious in hindsight that mtbi was part and parcel of my ordeal all along. I never considered it in those days.

I'm much better now, but still find things like too much activity, other peoples misunderstandings, catch-22's and such cause me a lot of frustration. When i remember way back before my fall in 1994, it seems that such frustrations just weren't much of a part of my life.

I wonder how common being easily frustrated is for other folks here in the group, especially when compared to 'before'.

" Well, I mean, all brain injuries are different and everyone recovers and react differently to theirs. I do get frustrated many times, mostly with my emotions. I find it is so much harder to control my thoughts and emotions after my brain injury. I think I could say that is the most challenging aspect of my recovery and also the most prominent. Good luck and God Bless "

" I find it really difficult to process new information, especially if I'm not in a pristine, quiet, safe environment. That's when my frustration reaches a high point. That's why I love you guys! I can process info and type my comments at MY own speed. Before, I was a wiz at quick, intelligent, meaningful comebacks -- almost instantaneous, now, well, let me say I have to process a little before imparting on anything meaningful! "

" I can get frustrated and go from 0 to 60 with only a few things that get under my skin. As time has gone by, I've learned to deal with most others.

What gets me is my driving. Pre TBI I had perfect vision. Now I have tunnel vision. It's not so easy driving with that! I always, always find myself comparing before and after tbi when I drive. There's no avoiding it. AND, if I have a passenger in my car, forget it. They must tread lightly on the subject if they know anything about me!

I'm gonna start keeping those horse goggles that they use to lead horses around ~ to keep them focused straight; in my car. Just to give my passenger a taste of how hard it is to drive and how focused you must stay.

Good post Harvey, thanks. I think I'll go for a spin on an eight lane freeway now :) kim "

" Frustration happens a lot for me too. I remember what I was...how far I've come...how far I have left to go and time is not my friend on that one. I got the desire, but little of the drive or energy to get me there.

Thats not even mentioning the rest of the things that frustrate me...and it happens a lot!

I'm working at getting my sense of humor back, my spunk...na gotta quit telling stories (lies) I used to be quite the jokester in all senses of the word. I felt great then...laughter the best medicine! Food for thought! "

" Yes, I can completely understand what you're saying. Having had two in my life (motorcycle accident w/ head injury age 21 and t-bone by red light runner just last May at age 49), I can speak to this entirely.

Can also relate to Kim re: vision. My vision really took a hit (literally!) and has come back online only so so. Also I have these "dial tone" moments where my brain goes completely off line even in the middle of a thought. I struggled with irritation and anger after the first injury. This last one has left me feeling more quiet/neutral hard to drum up any emotion because it makes my head hurt :-)

I appreciate you mentioning the neurocranial treatment I think it's the same as cranio sacral which I have had from my osteopathic doctor (thank God for her) that has made a world of difference for me. I don't know where I'd be without her as I've struggled with inflamed cranial nerves, head pressure, facial numbness and ongoing dental treatments since the last accident....

all the best gang!! "

" Yes, frustration is a great word to descibe the feelings I have following this TBI. I feel completely alone, except for you guys hear on DS. No one can trully understand what this experience is like, and I would never wish it on anyone. I too suffer with chronic headaches or pressure at the base of my skull and double vision. It has been a challenge to regain this, along with all the other aspects of life involved. Just the phyiscal healing is tough enough, but dealing with life in the real world makes it that much harder. Before I just kinda floated through life day by day as the breeze took me. Now it is an effort, but it is getting better everyday as I continue to heal everyday! nsm "

" My hubby has a lot of frustration. He told me today how much concentration it takes for him just to make a pot of coffee. He says it used to be so automatic before.

We are 1 year out from a severe injury. "

" Well since I've been recovered for 3.75 years, I'm definitely more of a bitch, that kinda includes frustration. "

" I think i hit a nerve (pun intended!)
I can really relate to what everyone has said here. Emotions are harder to control and times when they aren't controlled can be uncomfortable. At my worst time, i could not field conversations from 2 people or even one at the same time a TV was playing. This is much better now for me, hopefully it will improve over time for all of us.
Another common thread I'm seeing is that we have to work to think about and manage things that we all just did effortlessly before. It's really hard to communicate this to people in our world, but if we could, it would improve life on a day to day basis.
Oh, and NeuroCranial Restructuring was invented by a guy who was frustrated the cranial sacral couldn't get inside. The results is like cranial sacral on steroids. Very effective. They have used both on me to compliment each other making each more effective.
I hope some more folks add their experiences to this thread, thank you all. "
