" Many times the process of coming out of a coma does begin that way, with small things. "

" yes those are good signs. That means his brain stem has not been affected and he can hear and has enough cognitive ability to follow direction. Try adding som eyes or no questions asking him to shake head for no and nod for yes. Remember too that his brain is healing and it may take up to 6 weeks for the healing to give him enough strength to open his eyes. healing is a slow process but is apparently working if he's responding in the manner you mention.

" All I can say is recovery is slow but sure. I was in a coma for 3 weeks, and in 3 hospitals. I've been home since 12/07. It'll just take time, try to be patient. He won't remember years before the brain injury, I don't. GOOD LUCK!! "
