Today I found out that my 8 month old daughter has a brain-stem glioma. It seems all so surreal. I went through so much to have my precious little girl and now I may lose her. This site helped me greatly when I had my miscarriage two years ago. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Posted on 09/22/09, 05:09 pm |

So very sorry that such a little angel has to experience this problem. Let me say, however, that she has come to this challenge at a very powerful time. Neurological science has advaced so far and so fast. I have had multiple brain tumors during the last 31 years of my life. Today there are exceptional teams all over the country. With gamma knife and newer types of chemo that don't produce the traditional side effects, treatment can be so much more successful. I don't want to give you false hope but there are great possibilities. I know that God will walk with you and your angel through this. Early detection and having a good treatment plan is key. I wish your child a full and complete recovery. Please let me know how things progress. You have a friend here.

My prayers are with you. I was diagnosed with brain tumors in 4/08. I had the cyberknife treatment followed by 6 weeks of radiation to my brain - 4 times a week. I am still alive and living a quality life. New technology is happening everyday. Get good support and have faith in God and the doctors! Best of luck!

I cannot imagine your pain. My son was diagnosed at 32 with subependymomas which are a type of glioma. He has been through multiple types of treatment and is still a completely well functioning person, holding down a good job and completely enjoying his life. I think that we mothers sometime feel more grief and pain than our children. I cannot imagine how I would have felt if he were a tiny helpless 8 month old when this was discovered. Be encouraged by all the new treatments that are availabe. Get multiple opinions. Search out the best. And let yourself grieve. Your life has suddently changed. You are under a tremendous amount of stress and need to find at least one perosn who will not just feed you platitudes. You need someone who will let you say how angry you are and whatever else you are feeling. I wish you, your daughter and the rest of the family all the best.
