Has anyone had surgery for brain stem lesions?

Hi ...

Has anyone had surgery for a brain stem lesion? Mine is located in my superior tectum during one of the new T3 MRI scans. The report reads: a 5 mm focus of signal abnormality abutting the dorsal aspect of my superior tectum). There was hypointensity on T1 and T2 but hyperintensity on FLAIR. It is unknown at this time what type of tumor it is.

I have been told that I need to just be followed and rescanned but since I am having neurological symptoms, I am getting a second opinion from Hopkins. My current doc says there is nothing they can do, no way to biopsy, etc. Is this true? I appreciate any guidance you all can give me including other treatments that have been useful.

Kindest Regards,

Heather

" I had a car wreck on May7 th a16yr hit me from behind. With that I got a broken neck. When they did the scans they found a tumor in my spinal column and brain stem. They had no choice but to remove it. The wreck caused it to swell. That started to paralyze me. I had it removed it was cancer but not the fast growing kind It was called (Astro-sigh-toma) Don't know the real spelling but thats how to say it. They said that there was no way to do a biopsy becuses of the location inside the spinal column. They had to cut away half the vertebra's.

I don't understand much of what you have but I hope you the best luck. "
