I just found out two months ago that my significant other's brother (they are very close) has ogliodendroglioma type 2/3. He has gone through two major surgerys, and still more than 80% of the tumor remains. His particular type is considered rare because of his age (he's 20). He is being treated at St. Judes soon with radiation and chemo. I'm really nervous about the entire radiation/chemo process.

I'm not really sure how to deal with all of this because I am not a direct family member. I don't have a lot of people to talk to this about because half of them don't understand why I'm so upset about everything going on. (which still boggles my mind).

I love the the whole family very much and I want to do everything I can to help them. One reason I'm posting this, is to see what kind of things outside people did for all of you that really meant something and how some of your husbands, wives, girlfriends/boyfriends dealt with the process.

Thanks

" Most of my friends and family just kind of acknowledge I have a tumor and don't really do much except "feel" kinda sad for me. I don't bring it up much. HOwever at this time we know mine is not cancerous. I find out more in July as to what type of treatment. "

" As a tumor surviver myself I flat out tell people to stop feeling sorry for me because I want them to be able to live what ever life I have left. My parents still act very weird around me like I can't do anything for myself but they are starting to understand that I still can do just as much as they can. This tumor I have is very rare also and they can't do normal treatments on it . It isn't in the brain sits underneath it on top of my optical nerves. I had headaches so severe that it really limited my life greatly. Dilaudid legal form of morphine basically is what the er here figured out that worked with me for them. As for the depression I have gotten counsling help to deal with mine and once I started with it I kind have learned to explain to everyone involved that I don't want everyone to be sad and depressed about mine. I am only 25 myself and I am very angery that my life was pretty much taken from me, but I am slowly becoming more capable of doing things other than resting. I have learned to quilt, and I help with the boat and the other day I even climbed a tree to get the kitten down because the leash got all tangled. He will be very limited for a long time but you all have to remember that you have to let him try new things that are reasonable. Don't take away everything he had before I learned it does more damage to them. If he ever needs some advice to message me on here and I will do my best to help him. As for my tumor we have started to see some shrinking so it isn't impossible. I did Cyberknife Radiation Nov. 2007 It isn't so bad I will tell you he might get really sick because I did. I had to sit up in a chair to sleep for a while but it didn't last but 2 maybe 3 weeks. You will have to be very careful and not come around him sick at all. Not even a runny nose because it will be 10 times worse for him. If you need any advice let me know I will be more than happy to help out. "

" My cousin just had surgery for an Oglio with followup radiation and hes doing great. I think some of it may depend on the type of radation your friend gets. He may need a stronger but more targeted radiation because of the 20% they didnt get with surgery. Make sure he asks questions and checks out his options. I had gammaknife for a brain lesion and it worked 100%. "

" Hi there, I have been dealing with the same thing myself. I was DX in Apr 05. I have been through one year of Chemo which was really fun. Where is his tumor, Mine is in the left frontal lobe. Cancer effects the family and the friends and not just the person with the tumor. Please feel free to contact me if you need someone to talk too. "

" My husband just gave me pure love and support while I was watching my brother go through his cancer. That is what I would say to you, just love and support your significant other and his brother and family. Don't try and fix things, and always be positive!! "
