My brother has had to skip two weeks in a row for chemo treatment. At the Childrens Hospital in Denver they are wanting to try a new drug, not sure of the name. Any suggestions on how to get his white counts up?? He has Medulloblastoma, a rare adult brain tumor. I have been on the site since October 2008, so I am still fairly new.

" My husband is had to skip his treatment this week as well after three rounds of methotrexate, timador, and ritaxan. He was at 1.5 for white blood cells and we go in to recheck counts tomorrow to see if he is ready. His reds were low also and he had a transfusion yesterday to help with that. Since this is his second fight with cancer (first time in the brain) we know that when the whites are too low they want to wait. Dr's have never done anything other than wait for his white counts to come up on their own.

there are some drugs that you can take to increase the white's such as Nupagen (sorry spelling)and Nulasta but I am not sure if they give those in between rounds, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

My husband has CNS Lymphoma with several inoperable lesions in his brain so different then what your brother is dealing with. I hope this helps.

Take care and good luck. "

" My mother use to get one of those shots lat2000 mentioned when her white bllod cells were down and then we'd come back a few days/week later and they would test to see if they were back up. One one fo the chemos she was on they just styarted giving her the shot every 2 weeks to that it wouldn't fall. Talk to his doctor. "
