Male fertility after BMT?

Is it possible to still be fertile after receiving massive chemo before a bone marrow transplant?
I have a friend who just got his female friend pregnant and he had a BMT 8 years ago and has been receiving treatment for graft versus host disease for 7 years now. He is on Tacro & cellcept and just had a months worth of chemo about 4 months ago to keep his GVHD in check.
He was told he would be infertile, but obviously he was not.
What are your thoughts on this?
Thank you.

" In my experience as a BMT patient & a BMT nurse, more women are effected by sterility then women. Women are born with all the ovum they will ever have whereas men constantly reproduce their sperm. However, many men find it impossible to conceive after chemo too. Each chemo is different also. Certain chemos do not effect fertility while others are very detrimental. I would have to look up each separate chemo that he has had to tell you & even then I could not be sure.

I am currently pregnant...but had to use an egg donor & in-vitro fertilization. I have been told by my reproductive endocrinologist (my IVF doc) & by my oncologist that if this is the only child I will want then my DH & I need to think about birth control after birth. There is a chance that I can suddenly start to ovulate again. Nothing is 100%....I am sure it is the same with your friend! "
