" I don't have answers to your question, but I can lend you support to help you get through this with your friend. My husband's cousin has bone cancer that started as breast cancer. I need to learn so much myself, about how to talk to her, what to say, what not to say, how my expression should look.

She has always been the "wonderwoman" of the family, and now that she can't be that way anymore is really hurting her. I hope we can learn how to help our friends together. I know the person for 36 years!!! Take good care of yourself. "

" I have been there and went through it all: chemotherapy -- two types, radiation for six weeks and two major surgeries. I am a bone cancer survivor still alive after 27 years post-surgery! If you have any specific questions, I would be happy to give you my opinion on them. I would also suggest that you do the following:
1. Find out as much about the particular bone cancer that you can and be pro-active in dealing with your cancer. Be involved in your treatment. Don't just lie back and let the doctors do everything. The statistics speak for themselves -- those who are proactive and involved live much longer or kick it altogether. Those who are not have much less chance of surviving. Determine you will be a survivor right now.
2. Recognize your enemy - cancer! I hate it with every fiber in my body. It doesn't care who you are. It hits people of every age, color, religion and financial group. It takes no prisoners and is only interested in killing you. Decide you will beat it first.
3. The more comedy you can put in your life and more laughter you can add to your life the better off you will be.
4. If possible get a group of people who completely support you around you who will be speaking statements of hope and the best instead of negative stuff. We have all heard of the negatives and we know them. We don't need reminders of that.
5. Get out as much as you can and LIVE! Don't let this thief (cancer) steal your life away from you. Obviously, if you are sick from chemotherapy or radiation, or have just went through a major surgery you won't be able to do that. But do so as much as you can.
6. I am here and available to answer any questions. I will be painfully honest with you, so don't ask me unless you want to know the truth because that is all that I will tell you.
Take care and be a survior of cancer like me! Michael G. Murphy. "
