What should I talk about with bone cancer sufferer

My husband's first cousin had breast cancer a number of years ago, was in remission and this past spring found out that the cancer had spread into bone cancer. I know her for about 38 years and she has always been the "favorite" cousin of all my husband's cousins. She had always been like supermom, doing anything and everything she could for her family, her students and for anyone else who needed help.
The last time I saw her was in June and I could already tell by then that she had lost a lot of weight. She is now getting chemo treatments, which is only making her sicker. She continues working as a high school teacher, and it is becoming a true battle for her. Anyway, to get to my question.....How do I talk to her on the phone without falling to pieces? She knows she doesn't have all that much time to live, and I want to show her all my love and support. If my husband and I went to visit her, should we limit our time together to about an hour. I don't want to impose on her at all -- just to be able to kiss her, hug her gently and let her know how deeply I care about her. Fortunately, she is blessed with an outstanding husband, daughter and son. They are all by her side. Any further suggestions on what I can do...or say....or give her??? Posted on 11/14/08, 02:11 pm |
