What can I expect?

My youngest brother is 26. He was diagnosed last week with Osteosarcoma. He had what he thought was a shoulder injury 2 years ago, but an exray at the ER said he was fine. He has been dealing with increasing pain until last week, when he finally went back to the Dr. The new exray showed 3 pea-sized spots, and a large silver dollar-sized spot of what the Dr. calle Osteosarcoma. He already has poor health due to a degenerative lung disease, and many other serious health conditions. I would like to know, how serious is this? Would a very weakened person survive chemo? Does the fact that he already has seriously weakend lungs put him at risk for the cancer to spread to his lungs? I have no idea what we are dealing with here, and I would like to know what is going to happen. What can I expect to deal with?

Like your brother, I too suffer from Osteosarcoma. I was diagnosed years ago tho. I'm not too sure if a weaker person can survive chemo but in my case I feel very weak after treatment and to tell you the truth it might have a toll on you in the long run. As for what can you expect from all this, he is going to experience a lot of crazy symptoms like swelling of the bone where the cancer was found, weight loss, fatigue, night sweats, fevers, and/or chills. If he is doing chemo then he might also experience hair loss. Hope this helps.
Best of luck to you both. -Cheers Triks

Honestly, I think that the best thing is a positive attitude. I know that that's what kept me going. I didn't get sick from the treatments very often, though, I was very healthy before being diagnosed. However, mine did return in my lungs two years post-chemotherapy.
