I have been planning on getting a new tattoo for a long time. I was not impulsive when deciding the correct one for me (my default picture). It has a lot of significance to me, not just the painting but the artist, Salvador Dali, a madman who was masterful! The place I am going to is very costly and stated it would take 5-10 hours to do the work. They will have a better estimate once they look everything over more thoroughly. I know i am going to pay a pretty price but i love it and love what it represents to me. I told a few people and I was discouraged (based on price). I feel like i was completely shot down. When is it ever the right time to get a tattoo when it's very expensive? Why is it that the representation, desire and meaning behind it is not supported? It was suggested to "wait" when I have more money (i will get this tattoo in installments so i can pay for it). It was suggested i put this image on a shirt! All people think of is money and can't seem to understand why i would spend that amount on a tattoo....just would like feedback. Thanks :)

Good tattoo's are not cheap and cheap tattoo's are not good . They can be quite expensive if you want quality work . Most people think tattoo's are too expensive but will pay over 100 dollars to buy sneakers they will have to replace . This is forever so shelling out the cash for it is usualy worth it . That is a very detailed image and you would not want just anyone working on it . The matter of how much can mean the differece of experiance and talent . Most artists will work out a session price . The person who does my ink has 32 years experiance and is amazing . He charges 200 a session and I think that is a good way to work a large or costly piece .

thank you! i agree, this image is complex...she charges 150 an hour and she was talking about the detailing needed to make this image look like the painting it is. She knows what she is talking about and a cheap tattoo looks horrible! I understand why it is expensive, i am asking an artist to put artwork on me, i do not take it lightly. I just wish that the friends and family around me would be as enthusiastic about is much as i am...they just see dollar signs. She is also willing to do it at different times to help out with the costs. You don't have to get the entire piece all at once. Thanks onyxangel for your input!

The silliest question I've gotten about some of my really good pieces are about price. The guy who did them is very expensive and people wait 6 months to see him.
If you have the commitment, don't expect dabblers to understand.

Thank you all very much. I stopped bringing up the subject because you are right. Dabblers just don't understand so what's the point. I have my first session set for Nov 7th and I am really excited. I can't wait to get this done and have it on me!
