Amazing Talents

I am very often amazed at the talent of people who have little or no sight. I would love for you guys and gals to tell of your talents and skills that maybe you never thought you would be able to or other people did not think you could do. In general people often sell them selves short and are not motivated to even try things that may seem too hard even with sight. But with a little motivation it is amazing what we can do. I have often been told Oh you can't do that. But my answer is: Well, I am going to try and I believe I can, maybe not the way you would do it but I will find a way .If I can’t do it I will go on trying other things. There are many things I can do that I never really thought I could do. Can't never could. But try maybe can .Being visually impaired is not a stop sign. It may be a caution and proceed with care but after the caution is the GO for it sign.

" I have always been one when I hear "oh you can't do that" I go for it. I am teaching myself how to quilt which has been fun and kind of an adventure cause I'm color blind so my hunny helps me pick out colors that go together. I started out because I saw a quilted purse that I really liked but I refuse to pay $100 for it so I decided I would try to make my own. I haven't made a purse yet because I got caught up in making a blanket and am currently working on that.

Also to ramble a little more, I was diagnosed legally blind Jan 2, 2008, which was a few weeks before classes started at college and I wasn't sure if I could finish my degree in accounting but with the support of my family, friends and the people at school and the commission for the blind I did it. I graduated in December 2008. I am currently looking into starting my own tax and bookkeeping business.

I really believe that we all can do anything we put our minds to, we just may need adaptive equipment to accomplish it.

We are not our disability we are people living with one. "

" i am a quilter also . I have been doing it for about 28 years now. one thig you can do as far a colors go is do quilt s using many shads of the same main colore like all rede use all different red prints fabric or all blue or all green and so on. mixing with white is very dramatic. you can order fabric packs ets of all one color . . They come in handy and in some ways it it less expencive than buying them each alone. Handcocks of Paducah is a great place to order fabric from .They will send you a cataloge and you can shope on line http://www.hancocks-paducah.com/ "
