My grandson has coloboma. He is blind in one eye. He is 18months old. He keeps running into things. When he walks, he veers off like a drunk. I think his blindness in the one eye is preventing him from seeing periferrally. Please tell me what you all think. This is new to me and my daughter. We would welcome any advice or info.

" Welcome to our little group.

Your grandson sounds like any other baby, focused on where he wants to go and just goes for it. I remember my son use to do those things and he didn't have vision problems. We had to remove our coffee table and other obsticles. You may want to try this.
As he grows he will adjust.
One more thing, he is adorable. "

" MY SON AGE 43 HAS AN EYE INJURY AND CAN NOT SEE WELL OUT OIF ONE EYE. HE TOO RUNS INTO THINGS LIKE CORNER OF A WALL. . IF YOU WANT TO TEST HOW IT IS TO HAVE JUST ONE EYE WORKING COVER ONE OF YOUR OWN EYES UP. OR PUT YOUR HAND UP BETYWEEN YOUR EYES CLOSE ONE THEN THE OTHER YOU WILL NOTICE THAT YOU CANNOT SEE BUT HALF OF WHAT YOU CAN SEE WITH TWO EYES. YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THE PROBLEM OF PERIFERRAL VISION. . " See, I knew I wasn't crazy. I have been taking care of kids for 30yrs. and I have never seen this before. I know kids run into things, but poor zander takes out corners of walls and door facings and things. It is always the same side of his head he hits. He hit his head really bad the other day. We took him to the er and they dismissed the coloboma completely. I wonder if there's something we can do to help. He has litttle glasses that are precious. He does ok with them but doesn't tolerate them for long. Oh, thank you so much Mamob for confirming that I am not crazy!! You have a great day. "
