Advice:
Any sites with products to help him learn?

With my sons Cortical Visual Impairment they say he doesn't see the entire picture or letters and such and I cannot find sites for any sort of products to help. I take black construction paper and make some with walk chalk. I cannot draw animals so this is harder. He recognized the X on a key board is what made me think of to do that. Is there other products for kids like this? I don't know if anyone can help. I should had stated he sees better when its a dark background with white text or white drawings as opposided to the other way. I hope this wasn't a confusing question.

It sounds like he is having contrast issues. I have the same problem, and can only read on black paper with white letters. Even that is getting difficult fo me, but I can still do it to some degree.

What it sounds like he needs, is something called a CCTV. It stands for "Closed CIrcut Television". I don't know how Kids get help paying for stuff like that, but I know your local Vocational Rehabilitation office helps pay for stuff like that for adults. I agree about contacting your local NFB "National Federation for the Blind" or if you have a league for the Blind in your area that would work too :) They can't help pay for anything because there a non-profit organization, but they can steer you in the right direction as to where to get help with funding locally. Every state and local county has one, so you should too.

carry everything that your son could possibly need., if you have the money. Maxi-aids is the better place to order from just because everything Maxi-Aids carries can be purchased on Amazon also, and since most people have Amazon accounts, that works out good.

CCTV's can be in the $2-3 grand range, but there are organizations that help with the funding for that. a CCTV puts anything onto a TV like screen, and has controls to turn everything he sees on the screen to black on white letters. Thats why I say, it sounds like thats what he needs. They have software for the computer that does the same thing, thats what i am using right now on this website. everything on this screen is turned to a black color, and the fonts are really bold so they stand out well, but I use speech more these days.

any other questions, private message me, I've been legally blind all my life, so I can probably help you with anything that you want to know. Take care. Tom "
