The greatest risk factor for bladder cancer is a genetic predisposition.
I got this sentence off of the news and info section why is it that my doctor does not think it is a big deal that my dad had agressive bladder cancer. When the information states genetic smoking, and chemicals as causes that it can be genetic? Also I want to know how you felt after tumor removal. I feel like I constantly have to pee they gave me morphine for pain and detrol but I have only used the morhine pills twice and the detrol just scares me so I have not taken it. The doctor gave me seven days worth of this detrol la stuf. Posted on 02/23/09, 03:02 pm |

Detrol is a very good med. I used it after my most recent bladder resections. Did not use pain meds.
As far as genetic, ther really is no research that supports this. Smoking is highly linked, so is exposure to certain chemicals and dyes, particularly those used in manufacturing of rubber and hair dyes. If your Dad had it is may be both of you were exposed to similar things. That is not a genetic factor, it is essentially a common exposure situation. I have not seen anything tht suggests a link.. Consider this for example. A man smokes since age 18. Has a son at age 22 and continues to smoke for 20 more years. The child is exposed to second hand smoke or perhaps both work with chemicals, or the son (or daughter)also develop the habit of smoking. . The smoking is the more likely cause here (smoking is not the only cause). So sometimes it may appear to be genetic when it is just life style.
