  • LOVE of BEST "FRIENDS" ... MY ADVICE ;0)

Tuesday, October 14, 2008 | An Educational story

A friend here wrote: "I haven't come out to my best friend b/c he's straight and I've had a huge crush on him for over the past year which absolutely sucks."
So I replied.  (This was when I joined this site :)
Tell me about it LOL, God I've been there TOO many times.  But I have discovered one thing in my ventures ... If he minds your be...

  • My mom

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 | An Educational story

My nine year old is giivng a solo oral report this morning. I don't envy her. Those are never easy. She doesn't see, nervous though. I'd be a wreck.
Paulina's presentation is about her grandmother, Steve's mom. It's going to be boring. The woman was a bus driver for 20 years and now she works at Walmart. Her hobbies are quilting, scratch cards and smoking like a chimney. On...

  • Mom to mom advice

Thursday, November 20, 2008 | An Educational story

My advice to a friend who will one day soon be a mother:
The truth is we all raise our kids differently and there is no one right or wrong way. As long as it's not abusive (duh!) it's the RIGHT WAY. You do what is right for your family.
My 5 year old just started kindergarten after never having spent a single day in day care of any sort, preschool or even Sunday school. This wasn't my ...

  • Anniversary of Brother's Suicide

    Monday, December 8, 2008

The Holidays are a difficult time for many of us.  Every year at this time I experience again the evening I got the phone call that my oldest and closest brother had taken his life.
While driving home from work I had a terrible feeling that my brother wasn't going to live much longer.  He'd been depressed for quite a while due to a divorce and the military turning him down...

  • A powerful moment.

Wednesday, February 11, 2009 | An Educational story

I had a crazy day, but it ended with an inspirational moment. I haven't slept in about 48 hours (long story - will tell you some other time - but things are fine) and then I was invited at the last moment to a reception where Michael J Fox was speaking about Parkinson's Disease, his experiences and the battle to find a cure.
I'm not a big charity guy - I don't spend much time at fu...

  • Free Mandalan Christian Anarchy

Friday, April 24, 2009 | An Educational story

I am having a bad day, so to get my mind off it a little I guess I will tell everyone about my spiritual beliefs. A professor from Michigan State and I are working on a website for Christian Anarchists who also believe in tolerance, non-violence, and simple living. It is called Free Mandalan Christianity because we believe that everyone has a right to excersise free-will, since God himself does n...

  • Suicide.

Friday, July 17, 2009 | An Educational story

I knew I would have to write this eventually.  It never gets easier.  I almost never talk about it with the people I love, let alone complete strangers.  But it's the main reason I'm here and if I never open up, then what's the point?
Grace was a beautiful girl, smart, funny, a talented artist. She loved to decorate, she adored fashion.  She even tried her hand at w...
