Support group and Suicide...

I go to a local support group each week. And it's a really nice sized group but most of the people there are older (no offense ... it's just im only 25 and everyone is40 and up)
There were only three of us young people. Me, this girl L and this guy J.
And this morning I got knews of that fact that J who is only 27 years old killed himself over the weekend by letting his car run in a closed garage.

I never even let it comes across my mind that people who went to group would kill themselves. I guess i just felt like we were all there getting help.

I'm just really upset over this. and I feel sad, and J and I weren't the best of friends or anything, but we did talk and did relate on alot of levels. And he hasn't been to group in a few weeks and now he's just gone. I've felt real messed up all day.

I feel so dumb for never even thinking that people who come to group had the possibility of actually killing themselves. I know we are all sick. and I tried to kill myself before. My father committe suicide and i feel like i try to block it out of my head...

Suicide is such a horrible thing, yet I struggle with the idea of it myself. Then someone i know does it, and I dont know how to feel. And turning to god doesn't help me find answers. It's this world that is so fucked up.

" I'm so sorry this has happened .

Every suicide is a terrible thing, and you actually knowing J ,just makes it harder to bear.

Try not to blame yourself, because often we do that..The "I should have seen signs"..kinda thinking.

I know how hard it is to handle these things,it's happened to me too.

Just remeber to keep yourself centered and take care
HUGS "

" sorry its a trigger for you marie. It's a trigger for me too. My dad killed himself and that day is coming up in december and his birthday is 4 days before and it's just hard.
I think thats why this is so hard. and I'm gonna miss this kid. and I looked up his facebook page and his birthday is on november 13th. Why do people kill themselves so close to their birthdays? "

" This is a trigger for me too. I just went through a period where I really wanted to die. I am in so much pain and I thought there was no way out. I'm sorry you had to go through this. This is awful and painful, but as others said, make sure you don't make J's problems your problems. I hope they offer some counseling to those of you remaining in the group.

I'm sorry I don't have any wonderful words of wisdom to make you feel better. *HUGS* "

" hey darlin...here's the thing that I know about suicide. sometimes it's not just a thought or a feeling. It's a compulsion. Your brain and body deliberately refrain from understanding the implications of it. I have been there several times. It's something that takes over you. For me...fortunately I had other people around who stopped me despite how I was feeling. Later I felt different. Don't blame anyone who does it...they just got in a rough spot. I don't believe death is the end so maybe that is more helpful for me. It's weird when someone was there and now they're gone but honor their life by taking a lesson from it. Pray or hope for them that they will be something great in the hereafter if you can believe in that and make the choice to live on and take what you can from the experience. Yeah it's tough but it's also life. Take care. "

" Hi magg0607,

Your post really hit home. Having attended many different bipolar groups in the past, I have known far to many people who have committed suicide. I felt so many emotions and asked myself so many questions, and sadly, to date, seem no closer to an answer then I was 20 years ago when I was the 25 year old in a meeting. I don't attend meetings anymore, but when I do again, I will make sure I reach out to anyone I think is having a problem, but we all have to remember, sometimes people give no clue at all. Don't feel dumb, on the contrary your very post shows your compassion, a very great trait that comes from very great people.

Take Care,

Joshuattee "
