i was taking it. then had it effecting my liver enzymes so i was taken off of it. now she put me back on 500mg.i also take topomax.so i didnt have any weight gain from it.

I used to take 1500mg, but I had a lot of weight gain and it turned me into a depressed Zombie. I'm in the process of switching to lactimal.

I took depakote for about a year. zombie like is pretty accurate. reminds me of being catatonic without the extremities. i was on 1000mg a day. i don't recommend it. I did a treatment called neurofeedback bout 2.5 years back. havent needed any medication since...no mania...no psychosis.

oh and depakote did mess with my appetite...but it didnt make me more hungry.

1500mg a day and also zombified..alongside with the weight gain... not a good drug for me at all

It is my opinion that they use this to control mania .
But once it gets under control the dose can be to high.
You can see about having the dose reduced.
I did. but that is my experience and I did that with the help of the doctor.

I started out at 750 mg..felt great,then was upped to 1000..didn't feel so great,then upped to 1500..UUGH REALLY didn't feel great.

I've been at 750 for about 3 years..the numb zombie feeling suxs..but Depakote is the ONLY med that stopped my rages .

I have experiences some hair loss,and insomnia..no weight gain.

I almost died from liver toxicity taking it. My husband found me unconscious and took me to the hospital where I was admitted.

Hi, I used to take Depakote. Not only did I gain a tremendous amount of weight, but it made my hair fall out as well. I asked my doctor to put me on something else and he did.

I was at 3000 and had a rare alergic reaction so they put me on abilify and lamictal lost 96# almost over night and it is staying off glad to be off it after 9 years
